By Charles EssmeierSome six weeks ago, I began writing and submitting articles to free content sites in order to promote the six commercial Websites I own. The results have been both swift and dramatic, and the number of links from external Websites to my own Websites has increased from nearly nothing to more than 10,000 in a little more than a month. These results have inspired me to write more articles, and as I own six different Websites, I have six different topics to choose from. Still, my ideas occasionally run dry and that certainly happens to others who write articles for their own Websites. Writing and submitting articles on a regular basis does a lot for promoting your Websites, but where can you find more ideas for articles when you run out?

The first and maybe the most important step in writing a book is coming up with a great idea for some really useful or interesting book. The great idea makes the writing fun. The great idea makes the book easier to sell to a publisher. In the end, the great idea means you’ve got a shot at making good money from your writing. Unfortunately, many new writers don’t have a clue as to how to do this. Accordingly, I offer the following tips based on the 150 or so books I’ve written and the three dozen books I’ve published:

If you earn income as a writer, or use writing as a marketing tool, you know how difficult it can be at times to write. I started writing for my website and newsletter a few years ago. Sometimes it would be two or three weeks between articles. Sometimes writing would be torture. Then one day I caught the writing bug.
Now I write two or three articles each day. I don’t have to struggle for topic ideas. I have thousands of good ideas to choose from. Instead, now I struggle to limit the scope of areas that I will write about. What happened to cause this change? I caught the writing bug.

You might not need any memoir writing help, per se, as you know your past and you know quite well how to write, thank you. You might instead just need someone to inspire you, motivate you, give you a nudge–with some memoir writing ideas.
Here are a few prompts to stimulate your memory and to encourage your creativity…of which you have plenty to work with and to share. So do the activities (or at least one), and share them (or it) with loved ones…or with me if you wish. I love reading your memoirs and responding.

Where Do I Get Ideas?
That’s the most common question I get from fellow writers looking to break into article marketing. The truth? Steal them.
Yes, you literally steal ideas and twist them a bit to make them fresh – make them yours.
That leads to another question, how do you make old ideas yours so that they’re fresh, new and – dare I say – revolutionary?
Actually, it’s not as tough as you may think. Here’s a quick and easy formula I use for turning old content into something new:

Once you have an idea for a book and a plan for how to get it written and marketed, it’s time to put your brain to work with some writing exercises. Here are 10 different tips to help your brain get the ‘WRITE’ idea:
• When an idea comes to you, usually unexpectedly, it is time to write ¾ right now! Record it on anything that’s handy and transfer it to full size paper as soon as possible so you won’t lose it.
• You should write as long and as often as possible when you’re “in the mood” to write. Ideas can flow over a period of minutes, hours and days so steal time if you have to in order to write when you are on a roll. It’s a justifiable action.

Let’s face it, there are more articles available today than there are people to read them. From traditional media, to newsletters, e-zines and websites, everyone has become an expert on something and the information clog shows no signs of receding.

Ideas are power generators behind the success of any writer. Without a good idea an article always seems like a body without soul.
KEEP A DIARY IN YOUR POCKET
Your mind can produce ideas any time. If you don’t write it immediately you may forget. Thus a pocket diary is extremely valuable for a writer. As soon as an idea of writing a good article flashes in your mind, write it. You will be able to produce great articles with this simple habit.

I’ve been asked before about what to write. Do you write the great American novel, a fiction of epic proportions, or do you write a self-help book of some kind? A lot of the time, the question is passion versus money. Do you write for the passion, or do you write to make money?
